AN ACT
1 Amending Title 75 (Vehicles) of the Pennsylvania Consolidated
2 Statutes, in registration of vehicles, further providing for
3 renewal of registration.
4 The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
5 hereby enacts as follows:
6 Section 1. Section 1309 of Title 75 of the Pennsylvania
7 Consolidated Statutes is amended to read:
8 § 1309. Renewal of registration.
9 At least 60 days prior to the expiration of each
10 registration, the department shall send to the registrant an
11 application for renewal of registration[.], along with a text
12 message or email, if the department has the necessary
13 information to enable that communication, notifying the
14 registrant of the expiration date of the registration. The
15 telephone number or email address shall be voluntarily provided
16 to the department, and the department may not provide this
17 information to third parties. The text message or email shall be
18 sent once each week until the registration has been renewed.
1 Upon return of the application, accompanied by self-
2 certification of financial responsibility and the applicable fee
3 or fees, the department shall send to the registrant a renewed
4 registration card. An application for renewal of registration
5 for a motor carrier vehicle shall also be accompanied by self-
6 certification of current safety inspection. Failure to receive a
7 renewal application shall not relieve a registrant from the
8 responsibility to renew the registration.
9 Section 2. This act shall take effect in 60 days.
