AN ACT
1 Amending the act of March 10, 1949 (P.L.30, No.14), entitled "An
2 act relating to the public school system, including certain
3 provisions applicable as well to private and parochial
4 schools; amending, revising, consolidating and changing the
5 laws relating thereto," in certification of teachers, further
6 providing for out-of-State applicants for certification.
7 The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
8 hereby enacts as follows:
9 Section 1. Section 1206.1(a)(1)(i) of the act of March 10,
10 1949 (P.L.30, No.14), known as the Public School Code of 1949,
11 is amended to read:
12 Section 1206.1. Out-of-State Applicants for Certification.--
13 (a) The Department of Education shall issue a comparable
14 Pennsylvania certificate to an out-of-State candidate who
15 satisfies one of the following:
16 (1) Holds a valid and current instructional certificate
17 issued by another state and satisfies the following:
18 (i) Completion of a college or university educator
19 preparation program approved by the certifying state and
20 satisfaction of testing requirements [demonstrating subject
1 matter competency in the applicable area of Pennsylvania
2 certification, including passage of related content tests
3 required by the certifying state and field experience]
4 established by the certifying state.

6 Section 2. This act shall take effect in 60 days.
