AN ACT
1 Amending Title 75 (Vehicles) of the Pennsylvania Consolidated
2 Statutes, in licensing of drivers, further providing for
3 qualifications for school bus driver endorsement.
4 The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
5 hereby enacts as follows:
6 Section 1. Section 1509(b) of Title 75 of the Pennsylvania
7 Consolidated Statutes is amended to read:
8 § 1509. Qualifications for school bus driver endorsement.
9 * * *
10 (b) Proof of physical and vision examination.--
11 (1) Every school bus driver shall carry a certificate
12 issued by an examining physician or practitioner recognized
13 by the department pursuant to section 1508.1 (relating to
14 physical examinations), indicating that the person has passed
15 the prescribed physical examination, including an examination
16 of the eyes, within the preceding 13 months. The vision
17 examination may be made by an optometrist or ophthalmologist.
18 (2) The physical examination may include a hearing test
1 subject to this subsection. A person who requires the use of
2 a hearing aid must undergo a hearing test to ensure that the
3 hearing aid is properly functioning in a manner that allows
4 the person to meet the department's minimum hearing
5 standards. The department may not require an electroacoustic
6 analysis test report of a person's hearing aid to determine
7 whether the hearing aid meets the manufacturer's
8 specifications if the hearing test determines that the
9 hearing aid is functioning in a manner that allows the person
10 to meet the department's minimum hearing standards.

12 Section 2. This act shall take effect in 60 days.
