                                     AN ACT
 1   Amending Title 71 (State Government) of the Pennsylvania
 2      Consolidated Statutes, in preliminary provisions relating to
 3      retirement for State employees and officers, further
 4      providing for definitions; and, in membership, credited
 5      service, classes of service, and eligibility for benefits,
 6      further providing for creditable nonstate service.
 7      The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
 8   hereby enacts as follows:
 9      Section 1.     Section 5102 of Title 71 of the Pennsylvania
10   Consolidated Statutes is amended by adding a definition to read:
11   § 5102.    Definitions.
12      The following words and phrases as used in this part, unless
13   a different meaning is plainly required by the context, shall
14   have the following meanings:

16      "Municipal police officer."     An individual employed as a
17   police officer who is certified under the act of February 1,
18   1974 (P.L.34, No.15), known as the Pennsylvania Municipal
19   Retirement Law.

 1      Section 2.     Section 5304(c)(7) and (8) of Title 71 are
 2   amended and the subsection is amended by adding a paragraph to
 3   read:
 4   § 5304.    Creditable nonstate service.
 5      * * *
 6      (c)    Limitations on nonstate service.--Creditable nonstate
 7   service credit shall be limited to:
 8             * * *
 9             (7)   service prior to July 1, 1971, at a community
10      college established under the act of August 24, 1963
11      (P.L.1132, No.484), known as the Community College Act of
12      1963; [or]
13             (8)   service as a justice of the peace prior to January
14      1970[.]; or
15             (9)   service as a municipal police officer within this
16      Commonwealth by a member of the Pennsylvania State Police,
17      the credit for such service not to exceed five years.

19      Section 3.     This act shall take effect in 60 days.
