AN ACT
1 Amending Title 61 (Prisons and Parole) of the Pennsylvania
2 Consolidated Statutes, in Pennsylvania Board of Probation and
3 Parole, providing for early parole for educational and
4 vocational certification.
5 The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
6 hereby enacts as follows:
7 Section 1. Title 61 of the Pennsylvania Consolidated
8 Statutes is amended by adding a section to read:
9 § 6144. Early parole for educational and vocational
10 certification.
11 (a) Eligibility.--Except as provided in subsection (b), the
12 board shall reduce by 90 days the period of supervision for an
13 offender on parole if the offender:
14 (1) is in compliance with the terms of release; and
15 (2) during the period of supervision, receives a high
16 school diploma, associate's degree, bachelor's degree, career
17 certificate, vocational certificate, technical certification
18 or high school equivalency diploma.
19 (b) Exception.--Subsection (a) shall not apply to an
1 offender on parole who was convicted of a crime of violence as
2 defined in 42 Pa.C.S. § 9714(g) (relating to sentences for
3 second and subsequent offenses).
4 Section 2. This act shall take effect in 60 days.
