     INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35,
        MARCH 18, 2025


                               A RESOLUTION
 1   Recognizing the service of the Honorable Jerry A. Stern, an 11-
 2      term former member of the House of Representatives, and
 3      expressing condolences upon his death on December 11, 2024,
 4      in Martinsburg, Blair County, at 69 years of age.
 5      WHEREAS, The House of Representatives mourns the loss of
 6   Jerry A. Stern, who served the 80th District with distinction,
 7   representing Bedford and Blair Counties from 1993 through 2002
 8   and Blair County from 2003 through January 6, 2015; and
 9      WHEREAS, With integrity and purpose, Mr. Stern championed
10   agriculture, tourism promotion, library and school funding and
11   employment; and
12      WHEREAS, With those same values, Mr. Stern mentored other
13   members of the General Assembly; and
14      WHEREAS, From 2007 through 2010, Mr. Stern earned respect for
15   his leadership as Minority Caucus Secretary; and
16      WHEREAS, From 2011 through 2014, Mr. Stern provided
17   leadership as chair of the Tourism and Recreational Development
18   Committee; and
19      WHEREAS, Mr. Stern further served the General Assembly and
 1   the residents of this Commonwealth as an appointed member of the
 2   Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency, the Task Force
 3   on Commonwealth-Owned Lands and the Legislative Data Processing
 4   Center Commission; and
 5      WHEREAS, Born January 11, 1955, in Roaring Spring, Blair
 6   County, Mr. Stern was a son of the late Merle and Vera Replogle
 7   Stern; and
 8      WHEREAS, Mr. Stern was a graduate of Central High School in
 9   Martinsburg and a former Wineland IGA manager; and
10      WHEREAS, At the Blair County Courthouse, Mr. Stern worked as
11   deputy prothonotary from 1982 through 1989 and prothonotary and
12   clerk of courts from 1989 through his 1992 election to the House
13   of Representatives; and
14      WHEREAS, The Hollidaysburg American Legion Ambulance Service,
15   Hollidaysburg Veterans Home, Nason Foundation, Blair County Farm
16   Bureau, American Cancer Society, Martinsburg Rotary Club,
17   Martinsburg Sportsmen's Association, Cobras Softball Team and
18   other organizations benefited from Mr. Stern's energies and
19   experience; and
20      WHEREAS, A lifelong member of Martinsburg Grace Brethren
21   Church, Mr. Stern is remembered for his faithful service to his
22   congregation and community; and
23      WHEREAS, The House of Representatives remembers Mr. Stern's
24   contributions and achievements as a lawmaker and mentor; and
25      WHEREAS, Mr. Stern's wife Susan E. Stern, his children Jason
26   Stern and Gretchen Stern Bettwy and his grandchildren survive
27   him; therefore be it
28      RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize the
29   service of the Honorable Jerry A. Stern, an 11-term former
30   member of the House of Representatives, and express condolences

1   upon his death on December 11, 2024, in Martinsburg, Blair
2   County, at 69 years of age; and be it further
3      RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be transmitted to
4   the family of Jerry A. Stern.
