        ROWE, GILLEN, WARREN, M. MACKENZIE AND ARMANINI,
        APRIL 4, 2025

        DEVELOPMENT, APRIL 4, 2025


                                 A RESOLUTION
 1   Recognizing the month of May 2025 as "National Water Safety
 2      Month" in Pennsylvania.
 3      WHEREAS, The residents of this Commonwealth understand the
 4   vital role that swimming and aquatic-related activities play in
 5   good physical and mental health and enhance the quality of life
 6   for all people; and
 7      WHEREAS, Education regarding the topic of water safety is
 8   essential to preventing drownings and recreational water-related
 9   injuries; and
10      WHEREAS, In boating accidents in this Commonwealth from 2022
11   to 2024, of 28 fatalities involving boats, only eight
12   individuals were wearing life jackets; and
13      WHEREAS, In 2021, 23 year old James DeAngelo, a graduate from
14   Peters Township High School, drowned at a marina in Washington
15   County, suspected to be caused by an electrical shock from below
16   the water; and
17      WHEREAS, Members of the recreational water industry,
 1   including the Pool and Hot Tub Alliance, American Red Cross,
 2   National Drowning Prevention Alliance, World Waterpark
 3   Association and the National Recreation and Parks Association,
 4   have combined resources in an effort to educate Americans to be
 5   "water aware" during "National Water Safety Month" in May; and
 6      WHEREAS, These organizations are using this opportunity to
 7   promote water safety by providing education on preventing
 8   recreational water-related injuries and deaths to families and
 9   individuals of all ages, whether owners of private pools, users
10   of public swimming facilities or visitors to water parks;
11   therefore be it
12      RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize the
13   month of May 2025 as "National Water Safety Month" in
14   Pennsylvania.
