A RESOLUTION
1 Recognizing March 25, 2025, as "National Medal of Honor Day" in
2 Pennsylvania.
3 WHEREAS, The Medal of Honor, the highest award for valor in
4 action against an enemy force, is bestowed upon members of the
5 armed forces who have distinguished themselves conspicuously by
6 gallantry and intrepidity at great personal risk, going above
7 and beyond the call of duty; and
8 WHEREAS, The Medal of Honor was first awarded on March 25,
9 1863, and has since been conferred to 3,517 individuals for
10 their bravery and selflessness; and
11 WHEREAS, There are currently 61 living recipients of the
12 Medal of Honor; and
13 WHEREAS, Pennsylvania has a rich legacy of valor, with 379
14 accredited Medal of Honor recipients, ranking second only to New
15 York state in total awards; and
16 WHEREAS, Pennsylvania takes immense pride in its
17 distinguished military history and the courageous individuals
1 who have selflessly served our nation; and
2 WHEREAS, To honor these exceptional heroes, the Pennsylvania
3 General Assembly has designated a portion of United States Route
4 20, spanning from the Pennsylvania-Ohio State Line to the
5 Pennsylvania-New York State Line, as the "Pennsylvania Medal of
6 Honor Highway"; and
7 WHEREAS, This highway segment serves as a lasting tribute to
8 the extraordinary courage and unwavering commitment of our Medal
9 of Honor recipients; and
10 WHEREAS, It is important to commemorate and honor the
11 recipients of the Medal of Honor; therefore be it
12 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize March
13 25, 2025, as "National Medal of Honor Day" in Pennsylvania; and
14 be it further
15 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives wholeheartedly
16 support the goals and ideals of a "National Medal of Honor Day"
17 to celebrate the contributions of Medal of Honor recipients; and
18 be it further
19 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives commemorate the
20 heroism and sacrifice of Medal of Honor recipients and recognize
21 March 25, 2025, as "National Medal of Honor Day" in
22 Pennsylvania.
