     REFERRED TO COMMITTEE ON TOURISM, RECREATION AND ECONOMIC
        DEVELOPMENT, APRIL 22, 2025


                                  A RESOLUTION
 1   Designating April 8, 2025, as "Dominican Remembrance Day" in
 2      Pennsylvania in honor of the victims who perished in the Jet
 3      Set Nightclub, located in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.
 4         WHEREAS, Jet Set Nightclub was an acclaimed venue known for
 5   its vibrant music scene and cultural significance and was
 6   located in the capitol of the Dominican Republic, Santo Domingo;
 7   and
 8         WHEREAS, A tragedy occurred on April 8, 2025, at the Jet Set
 9   Nightclub at approximately 12:44 a.m. Atlantic Standard Time,
10   during a live performance by merengue musician Rubby Pérez; and
11         WHEREAS, That night, between 500 and 1,000 people had filled
12   the venue in anticipation of seeing the singer; and
13         WHEREAS, Suddenly and catastrophically, the roof of the famed
14   venue collapsed; and
15         WHEREAS, The collapse resulted in 231 fatalities, more than
16   200 injuries and 189 individuals being rescued from the rubble,
17   marking it as one of the deadliest non-natural disasters in the
18   Dominican Republic's history; and
 1      WHEREAS, Among the deceased were singer Rubby Pérez, former
 2   Major League Baseball players Octavio Dotel and Tony Blanco and
 3   Nelsy Cruz, governor of Montecristi Province; and
 4      WHEREAS, In the aftermath of the collapse, Nelsy Cruz
 5   heroically managed to notify the President of the Dominican
 6   Republic of what had occurred; and
 7      WHEREAS, This tragedy has touched at least 10 nations,
 8   including the United States which lost 17 citizens and had one
 9   citizen injured; and
10      WHEREAS, More than 81,000 Dominicans currently reside in this
11   Commonwealth; and
12      WHEREAS, The Commonwealth joins in mourning this
13   international tragedy at Jet Set Nightclub which has had a
14   profound impact on the Dominican Republic, highlighting concerns
15   about building safety standards and prompting a nationwide
16   reflection on public safety measures; therefore be it
17      RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate April
18   8, 2025, as "Dominican Remembrance Day" in Pennsylvania in honor
19   of the victims who perished in the Jet Set Nightclub, located in
20   Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic; and be it further
21      RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be transmitted to
22   the Dominican Consulate in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
