        PICKETT, JAMES, BARTON, ROWE, STEHR AND NEILSON,
        JUNE 30, 2025

                                  A RESOLUTION
 1   Designating August 16, 2025, as "Pottsville Maroons Championship
 2      Day" in Pennsylvania in honor of the team's 1925 championship
 3      victory.
 4         WHEREAS, The Pottsville Maroons, a professional football team
 5   from Pottsville, Pennsylvania, achieved remarkable success
 6   during the 1925 National Football League (NFL) season, finishing
 7   with an impressive record of 10 wins, 2 losses and 0 ties; and
 8         WHEREAS, On December 6, 1925, the Pottsville Maroons defeated
 9   the Chicago Cardinals in a pivotal game widely regarded as the
10   de facto NFL championship, securing the team's place as one of
11   the premier teams in the early years of professional football;
12   and
13         WHEREAS, The Maroons further solidified their legacy by
14   defeating the Notre Dame All-Stars, a team composed of
15   celebrated college football players featuring the famous Four
16   Horsemen, in an exhibition game that showcased the growing
17   prowess of the NFL and its ability to compete with and surpass
18   the more popular college football teams of the era; and
 1      WHEREAS, The 1925 Pottsville Maroons, under the leadership of
 2   players such as Tony Latone, Herb Stein, Charlie Berry and
 3   Walter French, and coached by Dick Rauch, exemplified teamwork,
 4   resilience and athletic excellence, bringing pride to the City
 5   of Pottsville and Pennsylvania; and
 6      WHEREAS, The Maroons' achievements in 1925 played a
 7   significant role in elevating the visibility and credibility of
 8   professional football, contributing to the growth of the NFL as
 9   a major American sports institution; and
10      WHEREAS, The legacy of the 1925 Pottsville Maroons continues
11   to inspire athletes, fans and communities across Pennsylvania,
12   serving as a testament to the enduring spirit of determination
13   and the importance of recognizing the contributions of early
14   professional football teams; and
15      WHEREAS, This year marks the 100th anniversary of the team's
16   championship victory; therefore be it
17      RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the
18   Commonwealth of Pennsylvania designate August 16, 2025, as
19   "Pottsville Maroons Championship Day" in Pennsylvania in honor
20   of the team's 1925 championship victory; and be it further
21      RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the
22   Commonwealth of Pennsylvania recognize the Pottsville Maroons'
23   contributions to the development of professional football and
24   the team's role in showcasing Pennsylvania's proud sports
25   heritage; and be it further
26      RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be transmitted to
27   the Pottsville Area Historical Society and the Pro Football Hall
28   of Fame to commemorate the enduring legacy of the 1925
29   Pottsville Maroons.
