        GALLAGHER, SCHMITT, RIVERA AND FRANKEL, OCTOBER 21, 2025

     REFERRED TO COMMITTEE ON TOURISM, RECREATION AND ECONOMIC
        DEVELOPMENT, OCTOBER 21, 2025


                               A RESOLUTION
 1   Designating the month of October 2025 as "Italian and Italian
 2      American History and Culture Month" in Pennsylvania.
 3      WHEREAS, Italians and Italian Americans have played an
 4   important role in the history of Pennsylvania; and
 5      WHEREAS, During the late 19th and early 20th centuries, many
 6   Italians immigrated to Pennsylvania and settled in various
 7   regions across this Commonwealth; and
 8      WHEREAS, From the streets of the Italian Market in South
 9   Philadelphia to western Pennsylvania, Italians and Italian
10   Americans have made significant contributions culturally,
11   socially and economically to this Commonwealth; and
12      WHEREAS, While larger cities had the draw of better
13   opportunities, many Italians made their homes in smaller and
14   more industrialized towns and communities across this
15   Commonwealth; and
16      WHEREAS, Italian-American communities across Pennsylvania
17   represent a rich ethnic identity that is still seen today; and
 1      WHEREAS, Organizations across this Commonwealth honor the
 2   historic journey of Italian immigrants and their role in shaping
 3   this Commonwealth and the nation; and
 4      WHEREAS, From the Italian American Program at the Heinz
 5   History Center in Pittsburgh to the various Pennsylvania Sons
 6   and Daughters of Italy chapters located across this
 7   Commonwealth, organizations and their members play a crucial
 8   role in preserving and honoring the history of Italian
 9   immigrants across this Commonwealth; and
10      WHEREAS, Since 1989, the month of October has been recognized
11   nationally as "Italian American Heritage Month" to promote
12   awareness of Italian culture, traditions and history; therefore
13   be it
14      RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate the
15   month of October 2025 as "Italian and Italian American History
16   and Culture Month" in Pennsylvania; and be it further
17      RESOLVED, That, in celebration of the enduring legacy of
18   Italians and Italian Americans, all Pennsylvanians be encouraged
19   to celebrate and observe the achievements, traditions, history
20   and culture during "Italian and Italian American History and
21   Culture Month" by participating in community events and engaging
22   in meaningful celebrations that highlight and show appreciation
23   for Italian heritage in this Commonwealth.
