A RESOLUTION
1 Expressing condolences on the death of the Honorable Edward J.
2 Lucyk of Barnesville, Schuylkill County, former 11-term
3 Member from the 123rd District of the House of
4 Representatives.
5 WHEREAS, Born July 29, 1942, in Mahanoy City, Edward J. Lucyk
6 died July 7, 2025, at 82 years of age; and
7 WHEREAS, Elected to the House of Representatives in 1980, Mr.
8 Lucyk faithfully represented the 123rd District from 1981
9 through 2002; and
10 WHEREAS, The House of Representatives notes with respect Mr.
11 Lucyk's distinguished pursuits and achievements on behalf of
12 Schuylkill and Columbia Counties, this Commonwealth and our
13 nation; and
14 WHEREAS, A graduate of Mahanoy Area High School, Mr. Lucyk
15 received a bachelor of science degree from the United States
16 Military Academy at West Point in 1964; and
17 WHEREAS, Mr. Lucyk served two tours of duty in Vietnam,
18 achieving the rank of Captain and earning a Bronze Star with two
19 oak leaf clusters and the Air Medal, Army Commendation Medal and
1 Vietnam Service Medal; and
2 WHEREAS, While enlisted, Mr. Lucyk graduated with a master's
3 degree in business administration from George Washington
4 University; and
5 WHEREAS, As a legislator, Mr. Lucyk dedicated his energies to
6 securing services and assistance for veterans and seniors and
7 advancing environmental and labor initiatives; and
8 WHEREAS, Mr. Lucyk chaired the House Military and Veterans
9 Affairs Committee and the Tourism and Recreational Development
10 Committee; and
11 WHEREAS, To Mr. Lucyk, "You've Got a Friend in Pennsylvania"
12 was the most meaningful of the changing State slogans; and
13 WHEREAS, Mr. Lucyk further contributed to the important work
14 of the House Appropriations Committee and the Legislative Coal
15 Caucus; and
16 WHEREAS, Mr. Lucyk's parents, Edward and Lucy Lucyk, and his
17 wife, Patricia Guinan Lucyk, preceded him in death; and
18 WHEREAS, His children, Matthew and Tara, and his
19 grandchildren, Lucy and Margaux, survive him; therefore be it
20 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives express
21 condolences on the death of the Honorable Edward J. Lucyk of
22 Barnesville, Schuylkill County, former 11-term Member from the
23 123rd District of the House of Representatives; and be it
24 further
25 RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be transmitted to
26 Mr. Lucyk's family in care of Tara Lucyk Gensler.
