        MALAGARI, HILL-EVANS, HOHENSTEIN, SAMUELSON, KHAN, VENKAT,
        DOUGHERTY, HANBIDGE, CEPEDA-FREYTIZ, MAYES, RIVERA,
        GALLAGHER, PASHINSKI, CIRESI, COOPER AND BELLMON,

     REFERRED TO COMMITTEE ON EDUCATION, MARCH 12, 2026


                               A RESOLUTION
 1   Recognizing the week of March 9 through 13, 2026, as "Civic
 2      Learning Week" in Pennsylvania.
 3      WHEREAS, A well-informed and engaged citizenry are essential
 4   to sustaining a healthy democracy; and
 5      WHEREAS, After local observances in Massachusetts, Rhode
 6   Island and New York in 2022, "Civic Learning Week" became a
 7   national observance in 2023; and
 8      WHEREAS, "Civic Learning Week" is observed across the nation
 9   annually as a week designed to highlight the knowledge, skills
10   and dispositions that provide the foundation for an informed and
11   engaged citizenry, and to call for individual, local, state and
12   national action to prioritize civic education; and
13      WHEREAS, It is essential that each new generation is equipped
14   to engage in our democracy for our civic strength, our economy,
15   our national security and more; and
16      WHEREAS, Civic education is vital to the preservation and
 1   improvement of the constitutional government of the United
 2   States; and
 3         WHEREAS, In 2026, Philadelphia will host this year's Civic
 4   Learning Week National Forum, where civic leaders, educators,
 5   researchers and other advocates will come together to call for
 6   an elevated prioritization of civic education in our classrooms;
 7   and
 8         WHEREAS, As Pennsylvania prepares to celebrate our nation's
 9   semiquincentennial, it is important that the Commonwealth
10   continues to explore ways of strengthening and increasing access
11   to quality civic education programs so that students are
12   equipped to be engaged citizens within our democracy; therefore
13   be it
14         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize the
15   week of March 9 through 13, 2026, as "Civic Learning Week" in
16   Pennsylvania; and be it further
17         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize the
18   vital role civic education plays in preparing the next
19   generation for democratic engagement.
