AN ACT
1 Amending Title 23 (Domestic Relations) of the Pennsylvania
2 Consolidated Statutes, in support of the indigent, further
3 providing for definitions and for relatives' liability and
4 procedure.
5 The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
6 hereby enacts as follows:
7 Section 1. The definition of "department" in section 4602 of
8 Title 23 of the Pennsylvania Consolidated Statutes is amended to
9 read:
10 § 4602. Definitions.
11 The following words and phrases when used in this chapter
12 shall have the meanings given to them in this section unless the
13 context clearly indicates otherwise:

15 "Department." The Department of [Public Welfare] Human
16 Services of the Commonwealth.
17 Section 2. Section 4603(a)(2) of Title 23 is amended by
18 adding a subparagraph to read:
19 § 4603. Relatives' liability; procedure.
1 (a) Liability.--

3 (2) Paragraph (1) does not apply in any of the following
4 cases:

6 (iii) An individual who is 18 years of age or older
7 and who is the child of an indigent person shall not be
8 liable for the support of the indigent person if the
9 indigent person has not had contact with the individual
10 for a period of 10 years before the need for support.

12 Section 3. This act shall take effect in 60 days.
