     REFERRED TO JUDICIARY, APRIL 28, 2025


                                      AN ACT
 1   Amending Title 42 (Judiciary and Judicial Procedure) of the
 2      Pennsylvania Consolidated Statutes, in budget and finance,
 3      establishing the Animal Cruelty Investigation Fund.
 4      The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
 5   hereby enacts as follows:
 6      Section 1.     Title 42 of the Pennsylvania Consolidated
 7   Statutes is amended by adding a section to read:
 8   § 3576.    Animal Cruelty Investigation Fund.
 9      (a)    Establishment.--
10             (1)   The Animal Cruelty Investigation Fund is established
11      in the State Treasury.
12             (2)   Money in the fund and the interest accruing on the
13      money in the fund are appropriated on a continuing basis to
14      the Attorney General for training and equipping humane
15      society police officers, development of animal cruelty
16      investigation materials, salary and benefits for attorneys to
17      prosecute and train other prosecutors in animal cruelty cases
18      and grants to animal shelters to fund animal cruelty
 1      investigations or other expenses permissible under this
 2      section.
 3      (b)   Assessment.--In addition to any other costs that may be
 4   imposed for a violation of 18 Pa.C.S. Ch. 55 Subch. B (relating
 5   to cruelty to animals), an assessment of $25 shall be imposed.
 6   Money collected from the assessment shall be transmitted to the
 7   Department of Revenue for deposit into the fund.
 8      (c)   Definition.--As used in this section, the term "fund"
 9   means the Animal Cruelty Investigation Fund.
10      Section 2.   This act shall take effect in 60 days.
