California voters are electing an attorney general this year. So what does the AG actually do? Let's look into it. This job is considered the state's top cop. They lead the Department of Justice as the state's top lawyer. And also the top law enforcement officer, the Attorney general is considered the representative for the people of California in both criminal and civil cases at both the federal and the state level. The Attorney general also provides legal advice throughout state government for state offices, boards, departments, and officers.
