Officers were re-elected during a board meeting this week. Ms. Lawson was re-elected as was Joe Wilson, vice president; Zandra Welch, secretary; and Kelvin Bishop, treasurer. During the board session members discussed its annual awards banquet with plans for an October event to be announced in the future. A motorcycle ride sponsored each year by Bradley/Meigs Roughneck Motorcycle Club was discussed with a fall event being considered to benefit Cleveland 100. The club members, many of whom are first responders, sponsor a scenic ride each year and, since it’s beginning several years ago, have contributed several thousand dollars to the organization. Cleveland 100 begun in 1997 by Mayor Emeritus Tom Rowland and the late Courtney McGrady, ATF agent, has a sole purpose and that is to maintain funds to assist families of first responders who may lose their life in the line of duty. Since its inception it has assisted several families with funeral expenses, family travel needs and school scholarships or funds for fallen first responders’ children. The organization has sponsored annual awards for first responders who have excelled in their profession giving out awards for dedicated professionals, community service, heroism and one award that memorializes the late Courtney and Betty McGrady for their role in founding Cleveland 100. The only source of income for the organization is memberships by which individuals can donate $100 a year to be members. First responders and family members can donate $25 annually for membership.
