Susan Collins says she is working to support the Searsmont Fire Department and other fire departments secure federal funding in the wake of the mill explosion in Waldo County nearly two weeks ago.While touring Enercon Technologies in Gray on Wednesday afternoon, the five-term senator said she will help the departments impacted apply for federal funding to assist local fire departments in buying equipment they need."I will be helping them with their grant applications and, subsequently, if need be, a congressionally directed spending project," Collins said. "But right now, our focus is on the grant applications to help them."Searsmont, Belmont and Appleton fire departments lost fire trucks in the explosion at Robbins Lumber.
