The council unanimously approved a bid by Blue and Gold Development LLC valued at approximately $133,000 to install around 170 feet of 36″ HDPE pipe to address stormwater drainage around Riverview Avenue. Thrasher Group Senior Project Manager Doug Smith presented the bid in front of the council during their regular meeting Monday night with city sales tax revenues supporting the project. “Recommended bid was $133,095 for Blue Gold Development LLC,” said Smith. “It’s going to be an installation of approximately 170 feet of 36″ HDPE pipe.” According to Smith, the work will also include the installation of 35 feet of 60″ HDPE piping that will take place at the same time as the 36″ piping along Riverview Avenue. Thrasher Group project managers will supervise the project with Blue Gold Development LLC completing the contracting work. The project is expected to be completed over several months. “It’s the installation of approximately 170 feet of 36″ HDPE pipe and about 35 feet of 60″ HDPE pipe,” said Smith. Smith also noted that the winning bid superseded competing bidders by around $250,000 or more. This is due to the immediate availability of the type of piping required to complete the Riverview Avenue project. Smith also noted such results are not expected to be commonplace in the future. “There was a wide range from $133,000 up to approximately $477,000, with the difference in pipe prices selected between the contractors,” said Smith. “They had different pipe prices, who knows how they got those prices.” The hope for Westover officials is that the work will begin sometime in the summer. Once ground breaks, the work is expected to be completed by the time the fall semester begins for WVU. Pending any changes to delays in material shipping, the expectation is that work will begin no later than a month. “I would anticipate we would see something later in the summer,” said Smith. “We’ll have to wait and see how long it takes to get their pipe here.” Share this post Share on Facebook Share o
