Photo: Swatch Nines Swatch Nines Surf is here to stay. Ahead of the third installment of the innovative surf and skate event, the organization has just announced a three-year deal with Waco Surf. Swatch Nines Surf first took place at the Texas wave pool in 2024, followed up by a second installment in 2025. The event quickly made a name for itself with viral stunts and a playful attitude (like that crazy stalefish backflip from Hughie Vaughan that got a nod from the Birdman himself). This latest announcement confirms a 2026 edition of the competition, which has been rebranded Swatch Nines Surf & Skate, as well as a commitment through to 2028. “Waco Surf has proven itself as one of the most progressive and rider-driven venues we’ve ever worked with,” said Swatch Nines founder Nico Zacek in a press release. “After the incredible energy of the last two years, it was obvious that this is the right home for pushing the boundaries in surfing, and action sports as a whole. With this partnership, we’re able to dream even bigger and build off the current platform for years to come.” The deal also portends expansion for both Waco and the competition. Waco Surf promises to be home to two skateparks by 2027, which will no doubt help fuel the event’s forays into not just surf, but also skateboarding and BMX. “Hosting Swatch Nines’ unique creativity and energy here in Waco has been game-changing, for Waco Surf, but also for the broader surf, skate and BMX communities,” added Waco Surf president David Taylor. “By working more closely together and being able to build over the years, we’re evolving Waco as the destination for riders to rewrite the limits of their sports. This is just the beginning of what we can create together.” This year’s Swatch Nines Surf & Skate is October 8-10. Newsletter Only the best. We promise. Contribute Join our community of contributors.
