WHAT: Heat index values in the mid to upper 90s expected. WHERE: Bronx, Kings (Brooklyn), New York (Manhattan), Northern Queens, Richmond (Staten Island), and Southern Queens Counties. City agencies will open cooling centers across all five boroughs, expand outreach to older adults, people with chronic illnesses and residents experiencing homelessness, and increase public alerts and health monitoring efforts. &ldquo;Just as New Yorkers look out for one another through the coldest days of winter, we must do the same through the hottest days of the year,&rdquo; Mamdani said. An Air Quality Health Alert also remains in effect through Tuesday night, with conditions considered unhealthy for sensitive groups, including people with asthma and allergies. Residents can find cooling center locations, including accessible and pet-friendly sites, by calling 311 or visiting the city&rsquo;s heat safety websites. Outreach teams from the Department of Homeless Services will also increase operations citywide, distributing water and encouraging vulnerable residents to seek shelter and cooler indoor spaces.
